BERLIN
I spent six weeks in Berlin, catching up with my son Pete. I lost my heart to Berlin. It's very easy to see why people love to live here. It's a vibrant place. The past is everywhere. Berlin has a complicated history and it's also beautiful...
The European Parliament elections were held while I was in Berlin - it is obvious there are a number of political parties which campaign about issues of moral purpose and which have clear points of difference - Fantastic! Australia - eat your heart out! I am a demoralised Labor voter...
HIGHLIGHTS below: A top highlight was also the time I spent with my friends Cait and Anne who stayed for a week each. It was also lovely to meet Dan, & catch up with Janet, Peter & Charlotte.

HIGHLIGHTS
Just looking at the pictures above from top left - there are many other highlights, though:
- Seeing Berlin from the Reichstag tower - what a view - and the dome is beautiful
- Listening to a performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons - first violinist, Dylan Blackmore
- Watching Germany play Portugal in the World Cup on a small screen at Gendarmen Markt, with 100 others
- Eating lunch at the Ku Damm - scrumptious
- The Hamburger Bahnhof - a visit to see some contemporary art
- The Hauptbahnhof - the public transport around Berlin is fantastic - lots of bikes too
- The Denkmal for Murdered Jews - powerful. Indeed, each Denkmal was very moving.
- Schlot nightclub - I went there three times, to hear Cypriot, Portuguese and French jazz
- A remnant of the wall at Potsdamer Platz - reminders of the wall, the war and the Holocaust are everywhere [good to see - good to reflect upon]
- Comedy at the Quatsch Club and the Don Juan performance at the Komische Oper.
